Overview
Join us in Key West at Florida Keys Community College for the first of our 2016 iiE Gatherings. As with all Gatherings, this event provides the opportunity to join us for any/all of the following three Gathering components:
- Unique, cutting-edge workshops designed and led by some of the most creative and thoughtful professionals we know. (Wednesday afternoon, March 2; workshop descriptions here)
- Public symposium and “un-conference” featuring an exciting mix of P-12, higher education, non-profit, and private sector participants. (Thursday, March 3)
- Collaborative project work days featuring lots of opportunities for feedback, sharing, and networking. Come with a project team, form a new one with other Gathering participants, or simply see what others are working on, gather new ideas, and offer fresh perspectives to others. Submit your project here. (Friday, March 4)
Underwater Keynote: Dr. Bill Irwin
Update: FKCC faculty Lana Sielski and Hilary Parmentier delivered the keynote in place of Dr. Irwin, who was ill. View a recording of the underwater portion of the keynote here.
The world’s first (that we know of) underwater keynote address will be presented by Dr. Bill Irwin of Florida Keys Community College.
Dr. Bill Irwin has been a Professor of Biology at FKCC since 2011. His experience, earned through a career leading educational, environmental and service organizations and businesses, has led him to become a pioneer in sustainable living and an advocate for environmental responsibility. He volunteers his time and services locally and globally to organizations that work toward preserving biodiversity, protecting animal welfare and promoting sustainability.
Panel Discussion: Imagination, Solidarity, and the Future of the Planet
How can people learn to care about other parts of the world? Is imagination more important than knowledge when creating global solidarity? Is it really true that we’re all in this together?
